ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kevin Patrick is a Santa Fe abstract
painter. Using techniques gleaned from
30 years of design and building experience, he creates abstract works that are
filled with expression and exploration. After earning his BA in Art from
Cal State University, Fullerton in the 1980's, he followed many other
professional paths but always found ways to work in creative fields. In 2011, he relocated
to Santa Fe with his wife to work full time on art. “I couldn’t have been a
full time artist 40 years ago, I needed to learn to get work done and follow it to
conclusion. I have to start a piece and
then work on it until it’s done. This can
sometimes take a little longer than I want.”
Kevin has worked in many styles and mediums but enjoys the abstract
style because it frees him to get to the source of the idea. “It is always just color, shape, and marks
that are the main elements I build with. I put them together and it becomes the
juxtaposition or relationship of these elements that completes the work.” Most of his work is in mixed media but is
dominated by acrylic paints. “Putting
paint on canvas or drawing a line with charcoal is such a wonderful way to
express your views.” Each time Kevin
finishes a painting, he finds the ritual of constant painting well worth the
time spent. “I get lost in the search,
the hunt to find and put the images all together and make it work.”
